Residents of East Delhi, especially those living in Yamunapar, are likely to face a dry and difficult Diwali this year. The drinking water supply in several parts of East Delhi will remain disrupted until October 22, leaving thousands of residents struggling for every drop.

Locals have reported that the water supply has been irregular for several days, forcing families to buy water for their daily needs. From cooking to washing dishes, every household chore has turned into a challenge.

Residents Struggle Amid Shortage

Salman Ahmad, a resident of Jafrabad, shared that the situation has been worsening for days. “There’s hardly any water supply. We’ve been waiting night after night hoping for water to come, but most of the time, taps remain dry. We are now forced to purchase water for drinking and cooking,” he said.

Similarly, Mukesh Gupta from Laxmi Nagar expressed frustration over the situation. “Earlier, we used to get contaminated water, but now there’s no supply at all. The entire colony is suffering,” he added.

Reason Behind the Water Disruption

According to officials from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), the issue began around October 3 and is expected to persist until October 22. The disruption has been caused by cleaning operations at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar, where the treatment plant is undergoing maintenance and cleaning.

The DJB has urged residents to use water judiciously and cooperate during this period.
