Recently contaminated water crisis in Sunny Enclave Kharar led 100 families suffer. For over a month, residents of Sector 125 (Ward No. 10) in Sunny Enclave, Kharar, have been battling a serious public health crisis — a contaminated water supply that has led to widespread illness, mounting medical expenses, and growing anger over administrative apathy.
Despite multiple complaints and a health department inspection, there has been no concrete solution to the problem. The colony, developed by Bajwa Developers, has not yet been handed over to any government authority, leaving residents caught between private negligence and official inaction.
"The water is not fit for drinking, bathing, or even washing hands. Over 100 homes are suffering due to this issue," said Jaswinder Singh, a resident of House No. 4439.
The situation turned critical for Dharmendra Malik of House No. 4614, whose wife, Manju Malik, was admitted to the ICU at Sohna Hospital for nine days after consuming contaminated water. The treatment cost the family approximately ?1.6 lakh, and Manju still requires regular medical checkups.
"The government and administration are only interested in collecting taxes and votes. They act only when a major tragedy occurs," Malik said, expressing frustration over the authorities’ lack of urgency even after the issue was highlighted by The Indian Express on March 9.
Further exacerbating concerns, a water sample test conducted on March 7 revealed that the colony's water was not even safe for handwashing.
Sachin Ahuja, a resident of House No. 4626, stated that despite lodging complaints on government portals, the contamination problem remains unresolved.
Residents are now demanding immediate intervention from health authorities and the local government, warning that continued neglect could lead to an even bigger public health disaster.
As of now, families in Sunny Enclave are left with no choice but to purchase bottled water for their daily needs — a financial burden many cannot afford for long.
